Well, its’ about human behavior, really.
“Quick and Less Work”
When we get busy, we seek simple and quick solutions. Prepacked foods, store-bought meals, and (can I even write it here)…frozen dinners. It’s “quick and less work.” That’s human behavior. Mine and yours.
We have this luxury..the “quick and less work” option in this day and age. But our acceptance of prepackaged mayonnaise and soy-infused meats has come with a high cost. Take a look:
- Currently 54% of US children currently have at least 1 of 20 chronic health conditions (including overweight, obesity, or being at risk for developmental delays). (Source)
- According to new (2013) research from a global collaborative of scientists led by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, poor diet and inadequate physical activity are two of the driving forces behind our nation’s health. (Source)
- Mental conditions, substance abuse, and musculoskeletal disorders cause more disability than cancers. Diet, blood pressure, and smoking are top risk factors for poor health. (Source)
Time for a Shift?
Yes, it’s time for a major shift in our society. What we have going on in our grocery stores isn’t working. It’s killing us. Our ancestors didn’t have the luxury of “quick and less work.” They had to work…or they didn’t eat. They were much healthier. (We can’t measure happiness but maybe they were happier too.)
Let me quickly show you the facts. They’re staggering. Our ancestors of old lived with fewer cases of heart disease and cancer (the leading causes of death in the US today). The major cause of death in the early 1900s was…infections. That is because antiobiotics (a huge achievement in medicine) weren’t discovered until 1928 (remember…Alexander Fleming…penicillin??). After antibiotics were discovered we had fewer causes of death from infections. That took the TOP THREE leading causes of death off the charts. What took their place has made permanent residency unfortunately. Heart disease and cancer. Yes, by 1950, these two beasts were the leading causes of death. In fact, they continue to lead in our modern day and age. Check out the below chart provided by Live Science.
How Can We Change?
Let me propose an idea. What if we use the advances in our modern day and age…you know…all the technological and scientific breakthroughs for our benefit. What if we use these breakthroughs to help our society eat REAL food, live simply, and enjoy bodies that are
PAIN-FREE, HEALTHY, MORE-ENERGIZED, AND HAPPY?
Most people think that traditional food preparation, making meals at home, making their own house cleaners, and reading for luxury are time-consuming and “the hard way” to live. It isn’t. Take for example the Friendly Disinfectant formula. It takes less than 5 minutes to make and so much better for those lungs of ours than the chemical-oozing formulas found in the stores. Or Homemade Ketchup. I bet you can make it in 5 minutes.
But I can’t convince you in one blog entry. I can try to shout from the mountaintop that “the social norm of prepackaged mayonnaise” is killing us but it’s up to you to truly investigate. And experiment. Experiment with real-food vs fake-food. And research. Read about the health benefits of real-foods and the detrimental side effects of fake-foods like preservatives, dyes, and fillers. You will discover for yourself how truly enriching it is to choose to live a life filled with real-foods.
Most of all it IS simple,
It’s less expensive,
and it’s totally worth it!
